“United By Sacrifice”

"United by Sacrifice": 25th Infantry Division memorial is comprised of five life-size bronze statues. From the front there are depictions of two Global War of Terror (GWOT) soldiers approaching a deceased comrade's boots, weapon, and helmet, set up as a field cross. The GWOT soldiers represent the more than 4,000 soldiers of the division who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2001. The other three figures, representing division soldiers who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, are tinctured in green patina and depict ghosts coming to provide aid and comfort to the grieving GWOT soldiers. There are three installations of this work. The original is located on Schofield Barracks. The second and third installations are located on Fort Benning, GA and Coleman, MI, respectively. On Schofield Barracks, as in Coleman and Benning, the memorials offer a space for reflection and commemoration. While the statues reflect the 25th Infantry Division history, they also tell the story of fellowship that bridges generations and offers a message of comfort to all Soldiers: you are never alone.
